Warm Hats and Mittens

These are hats and mittens that I have been knitting for charity. They will go to food pantries. Often children come in without any mittens or hats. We will have 60's this weekend, but the cold weather is coming!

Goodbye Dolly

Yesterday (Wednesday, September 30) we lost Dolly our Cairn Terrier. It was a sad day. This picture was taken on the Sunday before just before we left for the Brewer game. Ed took her to see Dr. Tom on Tuesday and she weighed just 6 1/2 pounds. She was 12 pounds when we got her just 17 months ago. She died just 4 months short of her 17th birthday. It was hard on her when her owner died of cancer but she adjusted well here and was a good little dog. She was born January 31, 1993 and was named Dallas Cow Gal as she was born during the Super Bowl when Dallas was playing. After her owner died, Diane, who bred her and had her for about two years, took her in and called us to ask if we could take her. Dolly was a half-sister to the little red Cairn that we had named Misty. Misty was the traveler and went with us several times to visit Arizona. Dolly was 15 at the time we took her in and we didn't think we would have her very long. We were lucky to have her for 17 months. We will miss her a lot. Since all dogs go to heaven, we are sure she is in a better place.

We're Off To See The Wizard!

The Community Memorial Hospital Foundation had their spring fund raiser on Saturday night and the theme was Wizard of Oz. Here I am posing with the scarecrow, the tin man, the cowardly lion and Dolly as "Toto". We were present to greet the guests at the cocktail party before the dinner. Dolly was quite the hit. She had her picture taken at least 100 times and was petted by nearly everyone. She was quite the trooper for a 16-year-old Cairn.

New Bike and New (Old) Dog

This is my new bike (Trek Lime--no shifting, it is automatic) and my new (old) dog Dolly. She is a 15-year-old Cairn terrier (like Toto from the Wizard of Oz). Her owner died of cancer and she is a half-sister to the red Cairn, Misty, that we had a few years ago. She is a great dog--too old to do stairs, jump on the furniture, or run away. She also has only barked once in over two weeks. She likes to ride in the bike basket, so I have gotten her a regular dog basket for my new bike. Will try to post picture of that when it arrives.

Christmas Snow

Isn't the snow beautiful! We had about 6 inches on Friday. It snowed from about 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It was a heavy wet snow (but the snow blower took care of it) and the trees were just beautiful. You can kind of see how much snow there is by the "snow cap" on the bird feeder. The snow is keeping the lake from freezing enough for traffic. (That's foot traffic--we don't allow cars or trucks on the lake.) I haven't seen anyone out here yet. Usually we have some snowmobile traffic by this time.

Here is another of my Christmas presents--this one from Ed--a fur vest. I wore it to a party last night. I can wear it over jackets, coats, dresses, and of course--my hand-knit sweaters.

Jesse Tree

For the next few days, I am going to post some of the great Christmas gifts that I received. My daughter Heidi (See her blog) made me this beautiful Jesse Tree Hanging. All of the ornaments are hand stitched and there is one for each day of December up until Christmas Day. The ornaments are kept in the pockets and then put on the tree with velcro. There is also a small laminated card in each pocket with a reading (mostly from the Old Testament) to go with each day. Her sister Amy made one for her a couple of years ago, and Heidi made one for me and one for Amy this year using Amy's personally designed pattern (designed by Amy and her husband Andy). It is just beautiful and I have already hung it up to the right of our patio door that looks out over the lake. Stay tuned for more of the wonderful gifts that I received!
